All members of the school community have a right to feel safe and secure at school, but it is a sad fact that bullying does occur amongst children and young people. Bullying is defined by the Wandsworth Anti-bullying Strategy Group as “behaviour which is deliberately intended to hurt, intimidate, frighten, harm or exclude.” It may be repeated or have the potential to be repeated, and it usually involves a power imbalance. This is not the same as having an argument or just not getting along with somebody. We work hard to improve our students’ understanding of each other’s feelings and emotions so that they develop better social skills, however, all of our boys have some difficulties with building relationships with other people, and this can sometimes result in students not getting along.
If we feel that a student is acting in a way which can be defined as bullying, then they will be put onto the school’s anti-bullying contract. This sets out clearly the school’s expectations and the step-by-step sanctions which will be put in place if they continue to bully others.
