KS4 Options

Early in the summer term, year 9 pupils make decisions about their KS4 curriculum that will start them on a pathway to their life after school. At Nightingale Community Academy the core offer is studied by every pupil and provides a broad and balanced base that is enhanced by a selection of vocational subjects; personalised to meet need. A detailed summary of the KS4 offer can be found here.

The Core Offer

– English Language GCSE

– English Literature GCSE

– Mathematics GCSE

– Science GCSE (double or triple award)

– Citizenship GCSE

– iMedia (computing)

The Vocational Offer requires pupils to select two of the following options:

– Art and Design (GCSE)

– Music (GCSE)

– Hospitality (BTEC Level 1 and 2)

– Sport (BTEC Level 1 and 2)

– Hairdressing and Barbering (BTEC Level 1 Diploma)

– Construction (City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma)

– Land Based Studies (City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma)

– Motor Vehicle Studies (ABC Level 1 Diploma)

We deliver industry-recognised qualifications that provide a direct route into training, work or further study on completion.

To support the decision-making process, all year 9 pupils have a limited introduction to vocational study in Construction, Mechanics and Animal Care. In the summer term, parents and carers are invited to attend an ‘Options Taster Day’ where they meet the subject leaders, tour the facilities and help their sons to make decisions about their upcoming study in year 10.

Should you require any further information about the process please contact the reception team who will signpost you accordingly.

The principal and leadership team, well supported by the Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust, have provided strong leadership, which has had a positive impact on the school’s effectiveness. As a result, there have been improvements in all areas, most noticeably in pupils’ behaviour and attitudes, the curriculum and in the wider opportunities for pupils.
