School Meals

It is important to us at Nightingale Community academy that students are well fed so that they can concentrate on their learning. Furthermore, we view meal times as a great opportunity to develop social skills. Therefore, all meals are freely available to all students.

Meal times are:

Healthy breakfast – 8.30am – 9am

Break/tuck – 10.10-10:30am

Lunch  (Primary)- 12.00pm – 12:45

Lunch (Secondary): 13:00 – 13:45

Afternoon break (for Primary only): 13:45 -13:55

All meals are prepared on site by our chef who is often helped by students. Meat and vegetables from the farm are used and we place a strong emphasis on students understanding where their food comes from and the importance of healthy eating.

We are pleased to work with the charity Chefs in Schools and are especially grateful to them for the support given to NCA during the Covid pandemic and since then. The dining hall was redecorated in 2022 over the summer holidays by London artist The Fandangoe Kid and is a bright, welcoming space where students can enjoy their meals.

The principal and leadership team, well supported by the Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust, have provided strong leadership, which has had a positive impact on the school’s effectiveness. As a result, there have been improvements in all areas, most noticeably in pupils’ behaviour and attitudes, the curriculum and in the wider opportunities for pupils.
