Exploring future pathways at Careers Event
Some of our older students had the opportunity to explore future pathways at a Careers Event organised by Orchard Hill College in New Malden. They were able to talk to the organisations who attended about possible pathways to employment after finishing school.
Nightingale Community Academy is part of Orchard Hill College Academy Trust and the College is a specialist college offering opportunities for learners with additional needs after they have left school. It offers WorkStart Courses and Supported Internships to help young people gain employability skills.
In addition to stalls promoting the College’s own WorkStart and Supported Internship programmes, external organisations in attendance included:
- Ambitious College
- Blue Cross
- Cardo Group (Housing maintenance company)
- Disability Sports Coaching
- The Hill Group (housebuilding company)
- Kooth (Mental health charities)
- St Mary’s University
Careers events like this are about more than leaflets and goodies to take home, they offer the opportunity for our students to speak directly with employers about training pathways, apprenticeships and supported internships.
It was fantastic to see students engaging so positively, and asking questions, helping them to build confidence and think about their future careers’ opportunities.
