Barbering is an ever-popular vocational option
Barbering is an extremely popular vocational option amongst students in Key Stage 4. The course that runs through Years 10 & 11 enables students to work towards a City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Hairdressing and Barbering which is the equivalent of a GCSE.
This work-related course develops a range of skills that students need to work in the Hair and Beauty sector. These include customer service skills, presentation, professional conduct, hygiene as well as shampooing, conditioning, barbering, styling, cutting, colouring, treating and blow-drying hair.
Students have the opportunity to practice skills such as plaiting and twisting hair in the school’s dedicated salon learning space. They also learn how to cut hair professionally and to style both men and women’s hair.
They learn about skin care and nail art application and can develop their communication skills to make their customers feel at ease.
The course offers students the opportunity to go on to study Hairdressing and Barbering at College.
